Where To See The Holiday Lights
Fill A Car With Friends And Go Light Surfing!
The following places have been rumoured to be worth driving by (or walking past) for a
lovely viewing of holiday lights. These will be mainly Christmas displays. I'd like to include more Chanakuh displays. I do have an online link for you that lists public Menorah lightings. If you know of any great holiday displays I've missed here, let me know and we'll add those next year. Please note: Some of the addresses listed below are those of private residences. Please respect the families' property, and please realize that lights may not be on every night. Have fun, and drive safely.

Once upon a time there was a man with a gentle voice and quiet charm.
He made several movies and worked in a TV show playing a character who
rode a motorcycle from town to town, touching lives, and singing a little here and there.
Then some of us didn't hear much of him for awhile. We wondered if he would ever come to sing for us again.
|
||
Michael Parks is not only singing, but he recorded 17 songs for us to enjoy.
If you haven't closed your eyes and dared to dream for a long while, take heart. These are songs to dream by.
And you'll believe he sings just for you.

We're pleased to host the work of artisan
Joan Garnand
on our little patch of light on the web.
Joan's creations are finally finding their way
out of her Tennessee community and into the
hearts of admirers everywhere. Check out Joan's zucchini/squash casserole recipe. This busy lady also began her TV stint this past spring, and is sharing her cake decorating and candy-making skills on a local Chattanooga station. She has spent this summer doing face painting and hand-painted stationery at Tennessee festivals.

See the man in the banner below this text? Go ahead--take a look. Take a good, long look. |

Memorize his face. This man is Scott L. Schwartz. If you ever get into trouble, you'll want him on your side. This guy means business. And his business is playing big and bad. Big may come easy, because he's 6'10" and weighs about 300 pounds. I'm not sure how he pulls off the bad part though, because he actually seems to be very... Well, never mind. Just click on the banner and get ready for some action. You can see some of Scott's newest work in the upcoming film Ocean's Eleven, which opens Friday, December 7, 2001. Here's a trailer for Ocean's Eleven (you'll catch a sample of Scott in action.)

Though I link to a lot of Christmas light displays in December, the real
"Festival of Lights" is one that originated with Jewish history. There are
many folks more qualified than I to tell you about this celebration. One
good site is A Beginner's Primer Of Chanukah.
One of the things people enjoy during the Chanukah celebration is the
food, much of it fried or deep-fried, using plenty of oil, particularly olive oil.
If you can't find a good Jewish cook to make some treats for you, you might try
Kosher Korner: Chanukah
for authentic doughnut, kugel and pancake recipes. If you want the taste without
all the work, try some
Chanukah Fritters.

NASA wants someone to rename the Infrared Great Observatory, and they are
having a contest. You must submit an essay of 250 words or less with your
name, and you can only submit one name. The deadline is December 20. The
contest details are here.

Many African Americans celebrate Kwanza during the month of December. As with Chanukah, food is a big part of the celebration. Here are recipes for a sample Kwanza Karamu menu. |
|
If you are an insomniac like me, you might want to think about catching a glimpse of the Partial Lunar Eclipse on December 30 this year.
